While the organization of gangs is undoubtedly more complex than the all-important matter of life or death, the frank recognition of this factor and of how serious life is for the teenager make this book welcome. I read this novel in the 70s when I was taking an adolescent lit. In the camp he met a friend named Baby. This caused ten Durango Street, a novel by Frank Bonham, was a book about a boy named Rufus. At the meeting with Alex, the gang agrees to elect a president, Leeroy, who will run their meetings. These are the longing words spoken by Esperanza. When Rufus returns home he learns the Gassers attacked his little sister. After the fight, he joins the gassers rival gang, the moors.
I didn't really know what kinda of book to get so I got a sports book. The Gassers chase down Rufus, who threatens the leader Simon Jones with a broken bottle and the Gassers stand down. The only thing I would have to critique is the fact the characters and tendencies didn't seem realistic. Light rubbing wear to cover, spine and page edges. Even though, it would be a pleasure for Rufus to stay away from trouble and listen to his parole officer, there is no possible way for him to do that since the only place to go to Is, Durango Street.

I loved Durango Street until the end. His first day home Rufus goes out that night to get milk and treats for his brother and sister. Little did Alex know is that Rufus has an obsession with their star running back Ernie Brown. The spine may show signs of wear. I think that is the best aspect of this book. He inquires of Sergeant Starkey about the Moors and he hands over all the files of the gang members and asks what Alex plans to do.
